The switch works, but why one start????? The answer is that the switches don't last. They heat-up and die if you don't shut off the power in the dryer or keep the door open. If you have the door closed and the power on, the switch has power running through it at all times, and the switch is not designed well enough to handle it. The switch heats up enough to slightly melt the plastic. Whirlpool should redesign the switch to prevent such a problem. It's about making money from a switch that costs a dollar or two to manufacture and much more to replace. Did Whirlpool hire a few engineers from General Motors to design the switch? It definitely makes me not want to buy another Whirlpool product. I've replaced the switch in the dryer twice and paid a couple hundred dollars to get the dryer fixed by a professional a year ago.
