Home desktop (Windows 7 Ultimate) or work laptop (Windows 8).... just one click away. Nice. :-) You need to wait the standard 4-5 seconds for the plug/play to kick in, but then you are switched. My only complaint is that I wish the speaker cable was a little longer, it reaches the side, but barely (If you have a speaker plug in the front, it will not reach). When connected to the laptop, the main monitor is secondary (laptop monitor is primary). This was my main reason for the kvm, and it works great! There is only 1 way to improve this setup.... a full docking station. Hmmmm.Update: I have had this for a couple weeks now and lowered the rating to 4. There is a faint hiss when you move the mouse (you can distinctly hear it if the room is quiet), which wasn't there before. I also replaced the wireless mouse with a wired mouse because it hung up once and doesn't work well on occasion (the wired mouse works fine). If the laptop goes to sleep, then I need to reconnect the monitor. The monitor does not "wake up" when connected.Update #2: Had to change to a laptop that does not have an HDMI port, and has to use VGA directly to the monitor. But... Win one for the monitor... it automatically identifies which component is switched! So when I flip to the desktop and move the mouse, the monitor switches too (the same happens in reverse)! I am a happy camper. :-) So one click, and I switch... even when NOT using HDMI.My new work laptop doesn't have a VGA output for video. My previous KVM switch was a dual VGA switch. I share one monitor between my home desktop and work laptop. I don't like a cramped work space so I don't want a dual monitor setup. This KVM switch did the trick. It would be nice if you could opt for cables that don't have mic/speaker plugs on them because I don't need them. The slick black button for switching between sources is really nice and it works perfectly. My home desktop runs Windows 10 and my work laptop runs Windows 7. On Windows 10, the USB wired keyboard and wireless mouse work perfectly. On Windows 7, the keyboard also works perfectly, but the mouse is really sensitive to my laptop's "work load". Once the spinning hard drive (the only one in my house) settles down, the cursor moves fluidly. But whenever I try doing too many things at once, the cursor gets choppy unless I move the wireless Logictech receiver directly into the USB port. I have a wired USB mouse at work I'm thinking of bringing home to resolve this and then just moving my wireless mouse aside when I'm not working. Maybe if my company switches to Windows 10 and solid state hard drives this wouldn't be an issue.Had been an IOGear user for years, but one day I did an update on my computer and the hot keys stopped working. IOGear tells me that they cannot guarantee that their KVM switches will work... Threw IOGear away and tried Startech. Works great. Even though it has a wired button to switch computers, I can still use a hotkey to switch computers. I am sold on this product. There are two reasons I gave this product a 4-star rating vs a 5-star. First the cables are really short. Had to move my server and laptop around to be able to connect them to the Startech KVM. That was a real pain. The second issue is that the KVM switch seems to have troubles waking up my notebook when I switch to is and use the mouse to try and wake it up. I have to push power button, to wake it up, which is not trivial, but I will work with that given that this KVM switch works reasonable well.Dual Port HDMI KVM Switch (SV211HDUA). Purchased after returning an IO Gear GCS62HU. IO Gear had problem with significant green dots all over screen. Startech has but much more generalized and in the background. IO Gear is the better looking item and seems more impressively made, though Startech works fine. Startech has much shorter cables, need to be at least 12-18" longer. I have both my computers on the left side of desk, but you can get buy with luck and just the correct placement. Required location had wireless mouse dongle too far away from wireless mouse and function was poor. Fortunately I was able to place mouse on USB extension cable. Startech also allows you to use wireless mouse and keyboard on same dongle. Handy in this instance. Startech is about $20 more than IO Gear.Works great to switch between my laptop and my Note 8 DEX on my TV. Audio and video is passed through HDMI for both devices. I like the fact that this works as a USB hub so that I can plug in both a keyboard and mouse but only have to plug in one USB port for each device I am connecting to the TV; this has allowed me not to have to use an additional USB hub for the DEX on my Note 8, since the DEX box only has one USB.This switch works great for sharing devices between my Windows 10 and Windows 7 computers. Being able to share the speakers in a nice feature that my previous KVM switches lacked. I had absolutely no problems with the setup of the switch and it has been operating without any real problems for about a month now. The only thing I have to complain about is that sometimes the keyboard shortcut does not work and I have to switch using either the wired remote control or the desktop icon,I would recommend this item.At first, I loved this thing - it worked absolutely perfect with my PCs, swapping between them was fast, and picture quality was perfect. After about 5 months of use, one of the inputs has stopped functioning well. There is a small amount of noise across the bottom of the screen, the signal goes out randomly every few minutes causing the monitor to be lost by windows for a moment.I've tried swapping which HDMI cable is plugged into which computer to verify that the problem isn't one of my computers, and the problem does follow one of the KVMs cables - so definitely a failed device.I bought this to switch the centre monitor of my 3 monitor setup between two Macs. On the whole it works well and for the money it's good value but it's missing a few features that more advanced (expensive) switches may offer. It has no "emulation" built in so when switching sources the Macs reconfigure their display(s) each time, seeing it as a monitor being disconnected or a new monitor being added. This can be annoying as it can move windows around. I had intended to buy the Aten one but there was no stock and I needed one quickly so settled for this as it was available next day.I've also had occasional issues with the USB getting "spiked" during changeover resulting in a Mac closing down the USB port making the mouse and keyboard inoperable until I restart. I tried using a PC as one of the sources and the same thing happened to that too.I was intending to use this between a Windows 7 and Windows10 pc with a wireless usb mouse and keyboard from Trust.I had been using another manufacturers kvm switch with no problems which had alas started being intermittent on one of the switch positions and needed replacement. The first thing I noticed when I unpacked it was the shortness of the attached cables. I got round this with a couple of hdmi to hdmi couplers together with a couple of usb A to B couplers. Then the fun started. The usb dongle that was the receiver for the mic and keyboard would only work on the Windows 10 pc.I swapped cables and inputs with no difference. And of course installed the latest drivers.Giving up I phoned Startech helpline to be told that they don’t guarantee it will work with a wireless keyboard and mouse so should return it if I could to my supplier.Apparently they say so on their website although I couldn’t find it.I am using this switch to allow 2 laptops to share the same keyboard, monitor and mouse. Previously used a Belkin switch for VGA but recent upgrades allowed me to change to HDMI. I saw the good reviews of StarTech's other products so decided to pay a few pounds more to get a quality product and really pleased with it, nice compact design and a solid feel to it. The graphics look great and the switchover is in 1-2 seconds. Have used it for a week now and no issues. Only suggestion I would make is that it would be nice if there was a simpler version without the audio and mic cables, because all my music is on just one of the laptops. But not a problem, just tied the spare cables alongside the monitor cables so they are out of the way.Great device that works as described, and does what I need it to do. Bought to use with a work laptop and my own desktop, to save having to move cables every time I want to use the other computer.I chose this device specifically due to the supported monitor resolutions, and because it was described as being able to work with a hdmi to vga adaptor. Am pleased to confirm that it does indeed work just fine with the adaptor. Can't comment on the included software, as I haven't had the need to use it.Smooth change from one machine to the other by pressing the switch button. I'm using it with to MacBook Pro, one 13" and the other 15" and I've had no problem at all.The only downside in my opinion is that, as it is not powered, it needs using a USB port from your machines. In order to solve that I bought the
