Where to begin? I used to work in IT so let's say I am no stranger to computer equipment. I work from home using my employer's HP windows based laptop and tarsus universal dock computer which is hardware/software restricted and I also have a minimac for my personal equipment in my own office. I use dual monitors for both setups. I wanted a KVM for ease of switching for when I wanted to use my stuff v. when I was working which requires employers setup. I narrowed my selection to the Aten (CS1642A) and the Trip-Lite (B004-2DUA2-K). After reading the reviews that Tripp-Lite's tech support was second to none I went with the Trip-Lite 2-port Dual Display. Even though I have Amazon Prime it took a week to arrive. I thought it would take about 30 minutes to setup. After 2 hours it still was not working correctly. The KVM would cycle on and off every 2 seconds with a corresponding beep. I was finally able tot isolate the power cycling down to the USB mouse. I went through 5 different USB mouse/mice. I figured well I for now I can live with a mouse in each computer let's get the rest working. I could get then display for each computer working but not the second. After speaking with Tech support I learned from them that the DVI cables that came with my monitors where DVI-I and the KVM requires a analog version DVI-D ... of course this is not inter manual or on any of the website as required equipment, nor are the cable to monitors supplied with the KVM. Two days later, after the DVI-D cables arrived the 2nd displays are working. Just not my mouse (same reboot problem) and one of my keyboards (mac only likes one - Windows laptop wasn't picky). I tried using the hot keys as directed by tech support to reset the KVM to factory settings to see if it would take a USB mouse. Interesting side note I was able to get a logitech usb wireless mouse (that I borrowed from my wife's laptop) to work, but not a logitech usb optical wired mouse .Tech Support was about to send me a new unit but was resolved that the new unit would replicate the same issue and said I would probably just have to resolve to using the usb wireless mouse. After we hung up, I was trying to decide whether to return the unit to Amazon and try the Aten, I powered the unit on and off, played with the factory reset keys again, and then tried powering up the unit while holding in a third button on the KVM (mode) key which looked like it went into some factory mode. when I unplugged it and plugged it back in - every now works like it should - Fingers crossed. machines have been rebooted and shut down several times without any hiccups and switching has been seamless. Don't ask me how or why it is now working but it is. I will update this posting if bad luck returns in the morning.I have been using this daily and it has been flawless! Worthy of upgrading to 5 Stars!
